Happy Independence Day!
Yesterday we celebrated the 246th birthday of our country. Not all of the birthdays have been pleasant ones, and it often seems like at least half the country is angry or protesting at any given moment.
I learned years ago to separate myself from people who choose to only fix blame instead of fixing the problems. I love our country, warts and all, and the 320 million+ people who inhabit it. To me, America is family, and small business owners are my favorite siblings. If I can help you run a better business or answer pressing questions, my email inbox is always open.
To quote former President Bill Clinton, “There is nothing wrong with America that can’t be cured with what is right with America.” Happy birthday to the red, white, and blue!

Earn More Rewards with this New Small Business Credit Card
PayPal just launched the PayPal Business Cashback Mastercard “to better meet the everyday financing needs of small business owners.” The card has no annual fee and offers a 2% cashback reward on all purchases. In addition, the rewards never expire, and there’s no limit on how many you can earn. PayPal says this makes the card “among the highest cashback rewards value available.”
Payments Dive says the offering also “includes a virtual card, free employee cards, and Mastercard benefits. Plus, the cards are integrated with PayPal’s merchant platform.

What to Expect with iOS 16
Apple iPhones have a 50% share of the smartphone market in the U.S., so millions are eagerly anticipating the release of iOS 16. The operating system update, announced in June, is rumored to launch in September.
According to Macworld, OS 16 is packed with new features like customizable lock screens (and you can create multiple lock screens), a new way to follow sports games, Uber journey progress, workouts, and more (called Live Activities), the ability to recall sent emails and texts, and so much more.

Are You Purposely Productive?
Do you yearn for more free time? What business owner doesn’t? An article in Fast Company suggests we “practice purposeful productivity, which requires a more intentional approach to tasks and to-dos.”
You start by figuring out where your time goes. And realizing there’s a difference between “important” and “urgent.”

How to Write More Effectively
I’ve spent most of my career in sales, so it surprises people when they find out I majored in journalism in college (Go Marquette Golden Eagles!). The writing and communication skills I learned have served me well, especially when crafting sales pitches and decks.
My friend Rieva Lesonsky has been editing articles for many years and maintains it’s easier to write long rambling posts than shorter, concise ones. And the Harvard Business Review agrees, saying, “it’s hard to carve out enough time to write effectively.” Even better, they offer “three strategies to pare down your prose.”
