Out with the Old; In with the New

This is the last of three blog posts I am writing as part of a program with Staples to help small business owners make the most of the upcoming holiday season and to close out 2016 on a strong note. As always, I welcome your feedback, suggestions, and questions.

Sometimes it’s nice to start with a clean slate. Whether it’s moving into a new house, starting a new job, or beginning a new life, when the page you are working on is blank, the possibilities seem endless.

Last month I didn’t completely wipe the slate clean on my business, but I did make significant changes which opened the door to new opportunities. I started by moving my office. The new location is clean, crisp, vibrant, and 10 minutes from my house. I’m leaving the olive-colored walls blank until January because it gives the space a feeling of “newness.” I didn’t want to simply move the same objects from my old office into the new one; I want new forms of inspiration.

After moving into the new space, I went on a shopping spree at Staples (not everything needs to change). I donated most of my old office supplies to a local non-profit organization and purchased new pens, notebooks, folders, a 2017 planner and many other office items we will need next year. I also looked into purchasing a new laptop, but still have six months left on my Staples Tech Services warranty. I decided to have Staples tune up my computer to make sure it is virus free and running efficiently.

I’m now in the process of reviewing all of our marketing and collateral material that is sent out to clients and prospective clients. Once we decide on our new look, I will go back to Staples Print and Marketing Services to have them print everything for me. I’m even changing my business cards at Staples to include my social media accounts.

I’ve always believed that each New Year brings with it unique opportunities both professionally and personally. The goal for my company is to have everything in place before the clock strikes midnight on December 31st. When the first work day of 2017 arrives, we will be ready to hit the ground running.
