The Invisible Workhorse: Xerox’s WorkCentre 6515

By on December 8, 2016

Ask small business owners what they want from technology, and most will reply with something like “I just want to plug it in and have it work,” or “I want the machine to do its job, so I can do mine.”

I recently partnered with Xerox to review their latest printer, the WorkCentre 6515. They told me the printer was designed with small offices in mind (2-10 employees using one device for all their printing, scanning, copying and faxing needs). They sent me a printer and asked for my feedback. Here’s what I think…

After using the printer for two weeks, I can comfortably say it is a workhorse! For less than $500, the WorkCentre 6515 will copy, email, fax, print, and scan. Not too shabby…but there’s more. I really like the Wifi direct printing option that allows me to print from my smartphone or tablet device. In the past, I used to send the documents to my computer and then print them. It also allows other people to seamlessly connect to the printer—an increase in workforce productivity!

I used the scanner to send documents to people via email. I could also scan work right to my laptop as well as to a USB drive. A bonus feature is the option to scan a document on both sides…I didn’t have to open the scanner to turn the paper over.

Another nice feature is the standard paper tray which holds 300 sheets of paper. It has an optional second tray that gives you a total capacity of 850-sheets (optional tray is 550-sheets). This means I need to find another reason to get out of my office chair (in the past it was to load more paper into the printer).

The WorkCentre 6515 is also fast! Whether you print in color or black & white, it can print up to 30 pages per minute. I didn’t know what to do with the extra time that I normally spend waiting for my multi-page document to print.

Now for the 1-2 things that need improvement. When I opened the box, the directions came in 13 different languages and the font size was microscopic. I would appreciate the opportunity to request instructions only in the language that I speak…and in a larger font size. I would also like to see sort of video tutorial or printer highlight video (e.g. 10 features of the 6515 printer). I guarantee that there are at least 4-6 features of the printer that I have yet to try, but would be helpful in my business. Kudos to Xerox for coming up with a workhorse printer for small businesses.
